模様：日本・縞。16世紀（室町時代～江戸時代）に南の島から輸入された織物の多くが縞模様でした。そのため「シマ」と呼ぶようになったと思われます。 それまでは「筋」「条」などと呼ばれていたそうです。「縞」は縦線のみ、横線のみ、あるいは縦線と横線を組み合わせた柄の総称で、多くの種類があります。 pattern：Shima, Japan, Many of the fabrics imported from the southern islands(shima) were striped, in the 16th century(Muromachi Period to Edo Period). Until then, the stripes were called suji, jou, and so on. It is a general term for patterns with only vertical lines, only horizontal lines, or a combination of vertical and horizontal lines, and there are many types of "shima".
